Descending the Yang, Ascending the Yin

This is a fantastic movement to do after a stressful day. “Descending the Yang” is great for getting rid of stress and clearing away the day’s worries from your energy system. And “Ascending the Yin” will energize your body with fresh, new energy and make you feel like a new person (try to do this exercise with a window slightly cracked for fresh air).

There are three parts to this movement. First, when “Descending the Yang”, your inhale is fairly quick and your exhale is very long. This is to purge the excess Yang energy from the body to make room for new, fresh Qi. Feel your energy sink from your head down your body as your hands pass by. Do this movement 3, 6 or 9 times.

Then, when “Ascending the Yin”, your inhale is very long to bring in fresh new Qi, and your exhale is fairly quick. Do this movement 3, 6 or 9 times.

The final movement is to balance the Yin and Yang…so simply do the “Ascending the Yin” movement but with normal abdominal breathing at a relaxed but steady pace. This will balance this new, fresh energy you have brought into your body.
